I have sold on Etsy nd cost is 20cents per listing for 3 mo and then a % to etsy and paypal when item sells. My daughter has been selling crochet baby items for about 1 year and had over $1500 in sales last year wit items $10- $25. Item are easy to list. You can easily do research on Etsy by looking for similiar Items you want to sell. You can check prices, also how many items shops have sold. All that should help you make decision. Etsy makes it easy to sell items, make shiping labels etc. I think that it is worth checking out and listing but do not expect to get rich. The nice thing about Etsy it that it reaches a lot of people across the US (a lot who have money) and there the price is set with no bidding. Actually I think that the problem with quilted items and other handmade items is that they can be very labor intense and you can not charge much for your labor. I think thast one of the tricks to selling on Etsy is to make something unusual and price it low. Good luck.

Paying taxes? IRS requires you to pay taxes on ANY income that you have. This includes money from garage sales, craft shows. Ebay, ETsy, Craigs list, shoveling snow and anyone who is self- emloyed. Do all people do it? There was just a post discussing writing off expenses for business ( but that post disappeared). Check with you local tax preparer for all the rules and regs concerning this . I think that Etsy does not sends out end of the year sales statements but by posting stuff publically there is a record of your sales. Just be aware!

I maybe sell about 4-6 items a year. Christmas wall hanging were in demand this year. I always wanted to get more holiday wall ha goings and table runners on but always get side tracked doing other things. I have sold a couple of big quilts too. Never had much luck with baby blankets.

I was going to play and actually did set up a etsy acct, but then I realized I would have to pay taxes on this, correct me if I am wrong, I feel we pay enough in taxes in Illinois and maybe paying more. . So I can sell on ebay as is without the tax headache, however I am too lazy to do that due to lack of interest. I think it would be fun to do though.

I have never sold anything on ebay or whatever. I have always just bought stuff, and thought about selling things but just never done it! I certainly pay my share of taxes, I just don't intend to pay more than I have to. there fore not doing the etsy thing, or ebay etc. Do you have to have an business licence to sell a few things on etsy I wonder? know nothing about that but that is ok too.
