When you sew around the edged of the square and then cut, you are not sewing on the bias but once you cut it ALL edges of the HST are on the bias. To me that is worse because now your squares have bias edges.

No bias using the Fast 2 Mark ruler. I always starch my fabric very stiff when cutting for HSTs no matter which method I use.

Does this ruler make more than 2 HST at a time? Or does every square need to be marked up to make two? Does it save time over sewing the large square and cutting 8 HST? I am all for speed and accuracy.

If you don't want to draw a line, just fold the block in half and either fingerpress or press. Then, sew 1/4" on each side of the fold line, cut along the fold line and press open.
