Consider "In The Beginning" books for ideas, Carrie L. Nelson has great patterns that could work, also check out Moda Fabrics project sight or Shabby Fabrics website for patterns/ideas. Love that look and would enjoy hearing what you decide to do with your fabrics. Enjoy.

What are shabby chic fabrics, and where do I find patterns using them on the internet? Or do I have to buy the book in a quilt store?

How about a Turning Twenty pattern? The first book is a bit more simple with larger cut pieces. Also a friend of mine did a Turning Twenty and sewed large ric-rac on some of the blocks; it really made a cute quilt.

You can use any pattern with shabby chic fabrics. Shabby chic fabrics are faded colors.

Look at this shabby chic. It only has 5 printed fabrics and 2 blenders. Very pretty - large blocks. It has the advantage of not being your usual arrangement.

I too made a scrappy summer porch quilt for my brother. Enlarged it to a couch size and used greens and golden browns with a soft shirt/stripe for the sashing pieces. Loved piecing this, the method EB describes makes a lovely accurate block. Another lovely simple design is snowball/nine patch. Have always wanted to try a trellis quilt, very good for large prints.

Shabby chic fabrics are very feminine with small or medium floral prints and soft colors. Not for men.
I buy Quilt In A Day books at Joanns with coupons. Otherwise I download free patterns on the web. I only buy Eleanor Burns books very rarely any others.
