I just love the colours that you are using.

I used to have probs with dull froggy sewers, my name for them, but I was using cheapos' once I invested in one of these: http://www.purlbee.com/the-purl-bee/...am-ripper.html It is so sharp that I have used it for making Chenille cushions :shock:

BTW I bought it 3 years ago and it is still sharp, well worth the money IMO :thumbup:

I have had a brass seam ripper, made by Heritage Crafts, for about 15 years. The blade for it can be replaced for $3.50. So far, I haven't had to replace the blade. I do have several other seam rippers which I occasionally use as I always need a seam ripper handy. Maybe that is why I don't have dull seam rippers.

I have been sewing/quilting for over 45 years and have never worn out a seam ripper. I have broken them but never worn one out. They are so 'cheap' (when you can caught a half price notions sale), I have several in different places in my sewing room so I never have to look for one.

My husband sharpens mine with a small file. Works pretty good.

use your rotary cutter! to rip

When you are ripping - Use the back side of the fabric and only clip every 3rd stitch. then turn your fabric over and lift the one thread and it will rip all the way across. Then take maskin tape or a scrap of batting on the other side and that should catch the loose threads.
Most seam rippers are worthless so I usually use a good pair of embroidery scissors. (like the stork scissors)

Good luck with your seam rippers. I'd use a small emery board.
Or buy anothe new one.

Use a small file you buy in jewelry supplies - I think it is called a bead reamer or enlarger. I bought one for a couple of dollars and it seems to work.
