I always wash my sheets a couple of time before using in quilt backing to be sure to get th sizing out and have them shrinkI personally don't like to machine quilt on them, but don't have any problem sending them off to a LAQ to do. It is also very economical if one can find 108" wide or wider fabric to use.

I buy them all the time at my local Savers. I have solids, florals, stripes geometric etc. I never buy unless the label says 100% cotton. Crib sheets are good too as they are usually all cotton. Sure helps my pocketbood!

I use the top sheets for backing after I have worn out the matching bottom sheet with my rough, calloused feet. After many washings it softens them up and makes them a little thinner. They also don't wrinkle. I have always bought 100% cotton in a 300 TC and they work fine for me.

I was in the process of making a graduation quilt for my daughter. One day she was helping me put new sheets on my bed, and she said Mom I like this print, wish we had some of this for my quilt. I took the sheets right off the bed and cut them for her quilt. I took the bottom sheet and cut it up and made strips for parts of her quilt and the top sheet was the backing. Very beautiful. When I took it to the quilter, he said that not to use sheets, because they make a bigger whole when the needle goes in. I couldn't see the difference. She loves it and that's all that counts.

A friend of mine has used them...only issue she had was pilling. I don't like pilling so I have avoided them. I make daily use quilts so if I thought they would work without pilling I would probably use the flats. Just me
