Bought a singer 413 zig zag at Salvation Army today for 20.00. Looks in great shape, but on vacation so not been able to try it yet. Anyone have this machine? How do you like it?

Can you post a pic?

Many of the old Singers are wonderful machines. I usually try to make sure that the machine will form a stitch before taking it apart to clean and oil. To do this, I thread the machine, use some scrap fabrics, and hand turn the wheel for awhile.

I recently posted about 5 cleaning and oiling steps I take with an old machine. If you click on my name and look at my recent posts, you should be able to find it.

My daughter recently bought a 413 for $25 at Goodwill. She has invested another $25 in clean-up/tune-up, and I just bought her a PDF of the manual online. So far, it's a great machine! Very smooth. We are hoping she will use and enjoy it for years.
