Our church made some "6 hour quilts" to send to a children's hospital in Haiti several years ago. We never got it done in 6 hours. But several ladies & teens learned to sew, & quilt and we made 28 quilts to send to the orphans. Great experience!

I have made a few of the Kaye Wood 6 hour quilts. I love them. It is a good way to use up the leftover batting. They are so durable and wash well. I can do it in 6 hours after the fabrics are cut out.

I have made sooooooooooo many of those and am still over 6 hrs!!! I make them for wedding quilts - 2 for each gift. On one, I make it the colors that go with their decorating theme on one side, Red/white/blue on the other. The next quilt I make with "fall" fabrics on one side and "Christmas" fabrics on the other. So that way they have something for all seasons! I have also make it to look like a "log cabin" block on one side and "courthouse steps" on the other when I get bored going in the "round"!! Maybe that's why I can't get to six hrs!

Here is one I did in flannel and it's baby prints. SO many fabrics can be used in these quilts. And someone mentioned leftover batting? Absolutely, When we cut and sandwich, I keep the side peices that are 6" just for these quilts. No waste here, and with today's prices. I love all the comments on this post. I love sharing ideas. Thanks everyone. Now I am looking into the 10 minute block too. As a matter of fact, I have a lady coming to my retreat in May to show us just how to do it. Can't wait.

Hmmmm it must be just the sewing together. I take more time in preparation than in the sewing. I take a lot of time cutting the blocks and then you have to sew the smaller blocks to the others to make larger blocks and then the larger blocks together to make one large block.....to get the quilt whole...way more than 6 hours to make the top and then you have to quilt it. They must be Wonder Women or know magic!

You girls must remember that Kaye Wood and others in her position, have all the material picked out for the pattern, cut out by their personnel, and placed in an exact position to be sewed. All this is placed on her machine and she does sew some of it, but a lot of it is done by others. She may do the sewing, but that's about it. Now, when we get rich and famous and write books and are on TV, we can make anything we want in six hours too.

I cut 6" strips by Width of fabric, then trim to size, then I have pieces for the other quilts I do. These are perfect for charity quilts, etc. Go together fast. Kaye's pattern is so easy to follow. It's a lot or typing, but after reading it thru, start.
