I have noticed, the TV sewers such as Nancy Zieman, sew crazy fast. And of course, they have all the room to spread out, tools, etc. to make a project go smoother.
Yes they do, and have you noticed how they make sure and hold their hand over their mistakes LOL!

My first solo quilt was a "Quilt in a Day" pattern. It took me three months to get the top put together, then I paid someone else to quilt it. However, the sense of accomplishment felt great when it was finally done.

I think they are counting 'actual sewing time'. My D1 has a clock that I can set to show me actual sewing time on a project. But that is only when the machine is running and, lets face it, that's the least amount of time involved with piecing!

I was just going to ask how many of us sew 24-hours straight? I know I don't. I usually do an hour here and an 30-minutes there... unless I find myself with more free time. I honestly can say I have never quilted/sewn for 24-hours in a row. That would be marathon quilting and I have never seen a quilting show called 24 Hour Marathon Quilting. To be honest I don't pay any attention to how long they say it will take to quilt something because I know from experience that some folks work fast and some like to go at a slower pace. Quilting isn't a race and a pattern shouldn't put pressure on the quilter to match someone else's timetable. Finishing a quilt should be the reward. For years I felt like a failure because I took so much longer to finish a simple quilt than my friends...then one of them pointed out to me that I was working 2 jobs, raising my grand kids, doing aerobics classes and still getting upset because I couldn't keep up with women who were lucky enough to be able to stay home and sew all day every day if they wanted. That was the most liberating comment. So forget about timetable pressures... and enjoy the journey of sewing something with love for someone you love.

Me too.

Remember all those famous quilters have "schleppers" that do their cutting, starching, etc. Even if they "claim" to do it all themselves, I bet they have someone cleaning up after them, putting their tools away in the proper spot, changing machine needles, lubricating, de-linting and all that fun stuff that we so enjoy doing.
Do we have to count the time we spend looking for stuff - the right ruler, "where did my rotary cutter go??" etc.

It's not free but it's very inexpensive. Here's a link:

Years ago I went on a quilting weekend and we slept about 3 hours a night, the rest of the time we were cutting or sewing. We did manage to finish a "Trip Around the World quilt" and a "Lone Star" done pretty much the same way. I really enjoyed being around that many people who were all totally involved with their quilting. No distractions. It was fun but when I got home I was flat out. I think those were the first two quilts I ever made now that I think of it.
