You would think that expensive fabric would have been "run prevention prepared" I have just made a red and white QOM and didn't prewash--I am so disgusted with myself for not washing it because I could have. It was not precut or anything and I had nice big pieces. Anyway, I think it will ending up as a "just for show" quilt.
It's important when you wash a quilt for the first time to use lots and lots of water to dilute any dye bleeds that may occur. I take mine to the laundromat and use their largest front loader along with Synthrapol to keep any loose die particles suspended in the water.
edit: I think that most of The issues with bleeding fabric are due to quality control issues in the factories.
