I have a friend who is a grief counselor for children. She helps the children make quilts from clothes and the working on it with the child helps immeasurably. Have the clothes washed by the owner because the smell of the detergent is part of the rememberance -- she uses large pieces from shirts and pants and arranges them in a simple pattern of rectangles so the child can help by sewing and tying the quilt.
This will be such a blessing to the partner.

Quilting is a hobby of pleasure for me, I do nothing that I don't want to do, finish nothing that I hate and make nothing out of guilt. There are many good causes for quilting but obligation and guilt are causes I choose to leave out of my hobby. Just say "no".

At the point I read your message my thought was that you are missing the clothing - the fabric that gives me, and probably many others the inspiration for our creations. Once you see the clothing, you may be able to "see" the loved one that is no longer able to comfort the recipient of this creation, and you should be able to feel some joy in knowing how much you will be helping them out. My mom passed away a couple months ago. I am so happy to have her raggy old sweater to keep me warm...
