I use the cheapest starch I can get...Niagra or whatever is on sale. Mary Ellens is greatly over rated and over priced!

If you are really concerned , use spray sizing . Niagara make both starch and sizing.

Best press is nice at getting out wrinkles.....but when I want to "starch" I grab for the niagara. Niagara now comes in a spray pump bottle...much better than the aresol for the environment. Found it at Walmart and Target.

It is Slightly cheaper buying the larger refill but not much. Hope someone has a solution for all of us stretching the budget. I wash mine, but wall hangings and table toppers need the starch to get the look I like them to have.
Because my mother used these two products, that's what I have always used. Have to agree very budget friendly and I love my starch-that too came from my mother-lol.

Although I have heard about starch & bugs, I have never had the problem here in FL. I use starch on everything - my fabric is stored in totes & on shelves.

I love, love, love the best press. Everyone that I know uses it and we purchase it in the gallon jugs. It works great and you can get a wonderful scented variety or you can get unscented. Works great.

I use Magic brand sizing. Can buy it at WalMart for around a dollar a can. I can spray a few times if I need something really stiff. Does not attract bugs, and is priced right! The ME stuff is an occasional splurge~~

The recipe I saw online was: 2 cups water, 1/4 cup cheap vodka and a few drops of lavender oil. I haven't tried it yet I just found it a while back.

I found some starch along with Magic sizing at the $ Store, so that is what i use. I was going through BP like crazy just to get the starchiness I needed. Ill have to try the vodka and essential oil mix and see how that does.
