I prefer rectangle but have made some square. I know some designs just don't look right as rectangle. But when I do make square I won't make anything less than 58x58 if it's meant to be a lap quilt.

Bundle babies? New mothers have been told that is not safe to have blankets in the cribs with babies. The baby may suffocate! Put them in blanket sleepers. (Spoken with attitude.) I know...we want our children safe when they sleep, but children around the world are still bundled and I am not aware of any major spike in the number of deaths from children wrapped in beautiful warm snuggly quilts made by loving quilters. My grands had baby quilts and they were not used until the children were past infancy. It is OK, because they will always know that their Grammie made them special quilts.

I think it depends on the pattern but I prefer rectangle.

I like rectangular but some patterns lend themselves better to square.

Both-sometimes square is better for some things, but for twin and lap I prefer rectangle.

It all depends on what or who I am making the quilt for.

Rectangle for me. My bed isn't square, why would I make a square quilt for a rectangle shaped bed?

I much prefer rectangular quilts but I have made several smaller square quilts that I lay diagonally on top of the bed..just to dress up a plain or solid color spread.
