I understand that too and I totally get it but.......

why are they raising prices on fabric already in stock? Unless they anticipate a shortage so want to "slow the public down" on their fabric buying??

They do the same for gas at the stations. Not a new load but higher price from one day to the next.

Was at Joanns today and was also shocked. Their sale price was just a $1 cheaper per yard than LQS. I passed on fabric and will look at Hancocks then LQS for doll clothes material.

Actually the deal you are referencing has been approved by management and their board of directors for acquisition by a private equity firm, but has not yet passed the vote of shareholders. Joann's has until 02/14/2011 to entertain other potential offers from other possible companies and firms willing to make the purchase so that the company gets the biggest bang for the buck and so the shareholders get the largest dividend and/or stock split, all of which they must ultimately vote for and approve (which is obviously likely). As a result, Joann's has not yet officially changed hands and/or management, as that will not occur until later in the year by the late 1st or possibly 2nd quarter if all goes well. The price increases you are seeing for the moment are sticker shocks coming from the beginning of the year balancing, full restocking and a change in some of their vendors pricing for Joann's as a client purchaser, and is not reflectant upon their raising the cost of fabric unilaterally. It's just that many of their outside vendors have raised the wholesale bolt prices which affects everything that isn't labeled as a "Joann's Fabrics" which are the fabrics they have fabricated on their own behalf with there own personal branding which they have cost controlled. Those have stayed the same thus far. Any effects an actual sale may have - remains to be seen. :-D

The last 3 fabrics that I bought at Joanns within about a month have all been price marked at one price. And then when they cut it and give me my ticket the price was been between 2-4 dollars more than what the bolt says. I caught it the first time luckily and so I have been checking now to make sure I do indeed get the marked price. They are increasing their prices. :(

Same with Gasoline!!! Whats up with that. They paid for the gas that is already in their holding tanks, but yet they can keep raising the prices almost daily.
