I have the same model Janome, and neither of my dogs will stay in the room when I'm sewing...

Okay, so those of us with dogs know what machine to not get. LOL. Yes, it is likely making a noise he is not comfortable with.

My dogs also look up when airplanes fly over. My dachsie that passed several years back would "chase" them out of her yard. When we buried her a jet did a "fly over" at the exact same time. So freaky.

Animals have much more accute senses than we do.
When watching the news about the earthquake in Chile it showed how it affected sensors in the gulf of Mexico.
Then I thought about the Whale that killed the trainer.
None of the Whales wanted to perform the day before the earthquake so they brought out that big whale and he killed the girl. Could be a connection.
The baby elephant that ran carrying that girl to high ground before the tsuname. ( cant spell that word.)
Dogs that know when an epileptic is going to have a seisure.
    Dogs can smell cancer cells.
Could you have a killer sewing machine? LOL

My dog used to take the pulse of a man that was staying at my house while recovering from a heart attack. I didn't believe it when he told me until I saw her do it. Dogs are just cool.
I'm sure the machine is making a sound that your dog just doesn't like. Or perhaps your dog just realizes that you're too busy to play.

I bet it's the sound. Maybe you can't hear it but he can.
