My 10 year old granddaughter ‘needs’ a new quilt ‘cause the one I made her when she was born is in pieces. 😄
She has requested these colors; yellow, blue, pink, orange, and purple.
She would love a yellow and pink flower right in the middle.

Any ideas?

If you wanted something really quick and easy what about ‘Warm Wishes’? Perhaps you could fussy-cut fabric to put flowers (and butterflies?) in the centre of the squares.

Whatever you make I’m sure your granddaughter will treasure it.

I'm partial to crazy blocks or a stack-n-whack. You could applique a very large flower in the middle.

Here's a link to a rainbow quilt and you could add a flower to the middle. I also think "Warm Wishes" that Moira suggested would be pretty too.

If she likes flowers or something floral then you might want to look at the pattern "Prairie Flower" tutorial by Jenny Doan of MSQC. I am in the process of making this pattern and it is using flower fabric. I think that is the name of the pattern?! If you can't find it just PM me and I can help you out with the pattern.

I've been working on a Wonky 9-patch I've been detailing in the Fabric Moratorium thread. Sorry, there is no pattern or book I've been following just my thoughts and photos in progress but I think it would work well for your Granddaughter. It's a donation project and I always saw it going to an 8-14 year old girl.

For your project I'd keep the center of each 9-patch the floral print and then randomize the colors around it. I'd also use more consistent pieces, say 3.5" strips for each of the rows.

I have a lot of thoughts about how I started the project before that (starts post 989) but that shows my pre-trimmed blocks and there is a summary shortly after that of what I've done/found out so far.

I'm putting the rows together today, here's a shot of the close-to-finished top. Warning! I still say this is "too loud to sleep under".

Edit: Although it looks wild, until the blocks were trimmed they were all straight cuts and straight seams. It's been very fast and easy and I've had no problems putting together the skewed bias edges together.

Put her request in the column headed "My Grandma can do anything".
The one that came to my mind is the one that looks like tulips in a row. Each tulip could be a different color according to her request. There wouldn't be actually "one" in the middle but all over.
If you are up to the challenge, how appropriate if you'd do a Grandmother's Flower Garden! But I have a pattern that I made several years ago that is called Quick Granny's Flower Garden that is strips instead of hexies. It was in Quilt Magazine (no date on the pattern that I have) and the design by Marcia Hohn. It is headed The Quilters' Cache but don't know if it is in that online site or not. The plus on this one is that there wouldn't be an up and down as with the tulips in a row. It would be a lot quicker and easier, especially when creating it for a child.
