So, I was making an apron and my machine started making a clunking/thunking noise.

I did a quick search here and tried to troubleshoot the issue.

The only thing I can think of is it is bobbin case.

My machine is not a super great one... a Brother 2600i, or something to that nature.

Has anyone else had a similar problem? Just trying to figure this out.

Thanks in advance.

I have a Brother and when to much lint builds up in the bobbin case and under the feed dogs it will start making a clunking noise. Have you gone in and cleaned the bobbin case? You may have some lint build up. I use canned air to clean mine out then do a quick swipe with the brush to get rid of the lint.

Hope this helps.

I will try it again.... hopefully it will be that easy to fix.

Thanks!

could be a dull needle as well if you haven't changed it in a while

Do clean out, though I'd recommend vacuuming as you brush instead of canned air. A quiet "thunk" or "thwack" might be a dull needle, though.

Thanks....

No luck... it makes the sound without the needle in. Also re-cleaned and it still makes the sound.

HECK!

It may be that the timing is off. This can make a thunking noise if out of line.

how do you fix that? Is it a repairman type visit?

I only ask, because it was a $120 machine from Walmart about 5 yrs ago. I have only been quilting about a year and was thinking of getting a better machine. Therefore, I do not want to spend a bunch to fix this machine, if I am going to be upgrading soon.

Sigh... decisions-decisions.

I understand your pain-I am going in tomorrow to the local machine store to test drive their machines. I wasn't counting on doing this for at least another 6 months!

Some less expensive machines aren't made to be repaired.: (
It's a throw away society. Check with a local repair shop, they may not recommend repairing it.
