I'm not sure what to do. I decided to join the group making the Farmer's Wife quilt. I ordered the book and was so happy when it arrived. When I opened it the CD was broke in half. Now I don't have the templates. I ordered it from a quilt shop that was going out of business and it was their last one. I'm certain the mail person broke it, when I picked up the mail the package was folded in half and stuffed in my box. I'm so disappointed. I knew I was behind schedule but felt I could catch up quickly, now I don't know. Do I just write it off as a loss?

Contact the author. She is active on the board. The publisher was sending out replacement CD for free.

Perhaps you can contact the publisher and explain that the retailer has gone out of business. Maybe, if you are lucky, they can replace the CD for free. Here is a link to the publishers website:

On the customer service page they have FAQ and do mention you need to make returns to retailer you purchased from but you have extenuating circumstances.

It is worth a shot. The worst that can happen is they will make you purchase a replacement CD but I have to think the cost will be minimal. Don't mention the part about the post because if you do they will tell you to file a claim with the post office for replacement. If you do that you probably won't have your refund for year. If they make you purchase the new CD go ahead and do so then file the claim with the post office.

in the mean time if you google the authors website they have a template download that you can use since you bought the book.

Before you blame the mail carrier, it is possible it was in half when he/she got it. Not knowing for certain what was inside, folding in half to put in your box may not have been something they saw as a problem.

Thank you everyone! I just called the 800# and they are sending a replacement. They have had quite a few broken CD's and this isn't something new. My deepest apologies to my mail carrier. I knew I could count on you great ladies to come through for me. A special hug for dungeonquilter!

I would take the book with broken cd to the post office and ask to speak to the supervisor over the mail carriers. The carrier must have used excess force to fold it, the book won't bend that easily, so it should have been obvious the package would have been ruined using that much force. And it's the fault of the seller by putting the book in a soft package with a cd inside. All books should be mailed in hard envelope or box. That's sloppy customer service. I hope you get a new cd, it's not fair two places messed up.

I think there were a few others whose CDs were also broken in shipping and they ad contacted the publisher and got replacements.
