    I like it without, too. Not knowing how the recipient is going to use the runner, I'd try to make it as flat of a surface as possible in case she wants to set something in the middle of the stars. Maybe do some quilting in that space. Was going to suggest a button instead of the tie but then that creates a bump, too.

    Just a thought, but if you sew a second row of stitching in the red squares maybe half way between the center and first stitching, you would have the reinforcement, and not lump from the tie. I can't wait to see it tea dyed. I have heard of it, but never actually seen something tea dyed.

    I like it best without, both for looks and keeping it flat. Maybe you could give us a mini tute on how you tea dye as it seems like several of us don't know how to do it.
