    I used to do this, and if I was in the midst of a really great project, I'd tell them I had a chest infection (automatic 3 days off), but, if I just wanted the one day, I would call-in with a headache. The only problem with "sick days" was you didn't get paid for them. Now that I'm retired, I quilt everyday, for as long as I want.

    All businesses should allow Mental Health days, but the places that need to supply them the most are the least likely to do so.

    We all need mental health days. Enjoy your day but make sure you get off of here and get some sewing done :}

    Never. I took 14.5 days off in 35 years of working - because I was sick or seeing a specialist doctor. Now I think it is probably why I am falling to pieces rather rapidly since I retired (from too much burn-out...).

    I would love to take a mental health day but my department is different too. I have one back up and when either one of us are out it tends to leave a lot on the other's plate. Of course she just got back from 8 weeks on maternity leave so I am due for a vacation day and/or mental health day.....LOL

    I used to wish, sometimes, so badly that I could be sick so I could have an "excuse" just to stop....I loved, loved, loved those six weeks after a baby was born cause I could tell everyone that "I can't, I just had a baby"...and not feel guilty. Now, I really am sick...with CFS and Fibro....and longingly remember the days when I felt so good all the time.

    Be careful what you wish for........

    I was actually contemplating skipping my tax class today. Just can't seem to get motivated, but i will bet if I decided to quilt all day I would find the motivation!! :roll:

    Sure wanted to today! Gloomy here in NC and raining. I have a horrible cold and sewing and tea sounds like the right medicine to me but..... I didn't.

    Fortunately my company has gone to personal days and my department is all about work-life balance. Probably because we're all workaholics and nobody has any balance. LOL!

    It's extremely rare for me to take an unplanned day off, and when I do I make sure I really can just be FREE to do as I please. I can't tell you the last time I had a day off when I didn't at least check emails at work, but I can say that yesterday I didn't answer any. This is an improvement.

    And I QUILTED!!!
