Talk me out of making a Storm at Sea quilt!

I did a Storm at Sea years ago early in my quilting career. I saw the pattern in a quiltering magazine and just decided to go for it. I used blue, green and purple scraps. The hard part for me was judging the color grade: lights, mediums, and darks because some of the scraps were 'iffy', but if you have a kit, that's already been done for you. I did all of mine by hand...piecing and quilting. Took me a long time, but I finished it and am proud of the results. So, take on the challenge and enjoy it! I tried to add a photo.....not succeeding; sorry.

I made one awhile back & did it with paper piecing. I thought it was very easy & fast. I wouldn't even think about it any other way. I'm sorry I can't include a pix since I no longer have it stored on my camera or computer.

my only advise is to pick the fabrics very carefully - my DD made one years ago and it was gorgeous but unfortunately one of the fabrics changed color and another one faded so much of the design is lost....it is still cuddley but no longer a wall hanging

Well, it has severe diagonals, so they stretch miserably... and is immensely effort-intensive.... it is actually a 54-40 block with elongated diamonds in the sashing strips with corner blocks....so it's really 3 different block designs, put together with 1 block, 4 corner, and 4 sashing sides.... only you can decide whether it is worth it..., but i'd rather make 3 other quilts in the same amount of time...

Have you tried the Little Bits tissue paper-pieced patterns by Cindi Edgerton? My 7 yo GGD just gave me 2 for Christmas... storm at sea (finishes as 52.5-inches by 52.5-inches wall quilt) and a feathered star that finishes at 35-inch square (perfect for the center of a wall hanging or bedspread). In the early 90s I made up several storm at sea blocks (my own pp) for some sweatshirts. Pattern wasn't any more difficult than any other pp pattern so I'm looking forward to making these.

My quilt guild had a demo by creative grids awhile ago.It was someone from Checkers I think? I don't remember the details. They showed us a ruler and pattern that was supposed to make the Storm at Sea quilt easier. I will see if I can find the info. I almost bought it but didn't. Too many UFO's
