One thing I like to do when I've unfolded fabric to cut off what I wanted is to refold it a little differently so that new fold lines are created; kinda like refolding a quilt differently every time you take it out.

EXCELLENT suggestion oksew ... I've found a few pieces of fabric that have been hanging around for a few years that have faded at the fold line .. it may have been folded for about 15 (or so) years ... I don't see anything wrong with that ..

I refolded all my fabric recently to accomplish two things... 1, to fit better on my shelves, and 2, (which is really practical) to make it easier to cut without unfolding the whole piece! I fold it selvage to selvage, then in half cut edge to cut edge. Then I start at the folded end, and fold it over and over (about 6" wide), kinda like it was on the cardboard at the store, so you end up with the cut edges at the end. Then I fold it in half and put it on my pile! This way, when I'm ready to cut, I only have to unfold a small portion to cut off what I need.
