In general batiks don't have a right/wrong side. I did buy one once that had a gaudy gold (looked like paint) that had been applied to one side and not to the other. I hated the gaudy gold, so I will be using the side without it.

i pay for both sides of my fabrics- i use what ever side works for the project i'm working on. with batiks and hand dyes both sides are pretty much equal- although you may like one side better than the other- that would be the right side for you-
when working on water color quilts often the back side of even regular quilting prints are used because we want a more muted look- the other side may be too vibrant.
use the side that is (right) for you= both sides are usable.
