They like the BACKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Isn't that the way. No appreciation for the work that goes into a project or the love that it was made with. Just the "pretty"! Smile and think that maybe next year they will put it right side up. Same with the other gifts you made them. Merry Christmas and good going to be done so far ahead of time.

I remember when I was a little bitty thing & my mom made me a quilt for my & my sisters bed. I always wanted to put it on the bed with the backing showing. I didn't want anyone to see the "patches". She Lways used beautiful fabric for the backs. She never ever commented on it. It took me until I was about 12 & l was learning to piece quilts that I realized the work involved. So maybe they will realize that it takes time & effort at some point. When I did realize this, I felt really bad.

Isn't the point of all our work and love to make a "pretty" quilt that they will love? I guess they (the donees) don't like the traditional quilts and like the whole cloth look of the back. Many quilters put tremendous hours into a whole cloth quilt so we shouldn't put down that look when it is on the back of our quilts. Although I know we seldom have the quality of whole cloth on the back that is put into the others. Still, I feel we should acknowledge that genre of quilt when we find that a relative or friend has expressed a preference for it.

yep...I hear you. I made a lap quilt for my brother the fishing nut. Fish all appiqued, underwater stuff all appliqued, quilted in wavy lines. Just appliqued the hell out of it. You guessed it...he loved the backing! But I still love him! Just hate his taste LOL

I have had this happen. My SIL likes the front of the quilt. But she LOVES the fabric I used for the back because she "chose it." I have gone to her house and seen the quilt on the bed backside up!
PS other people think it is odd that she has the backside up since the front is so pretty. Oh well.

Goes to show that one can't predict what others will like!
At least you are going with the flow and not throwing a hissy-fit
over what they have "done" to you tree skirt ... and letting it spoil Christmas for all.
Good luck with your spiral .... they may surprise you.
And too, remember in years to come they may change and say OMG the back/front side is a beauty and reverse their usage.

A couple of years ago, my oldest son called me on my cell...Said that they didn't have a tree skirt and did I have an extra. I told him where to find it...and when I opened the box I find that he took the one that I had quilted and finished after Christmas the year before...I was brand new and I never got to use it because it never came home. I told him that he took the wrong one and he said that he liked the one he took and that he wasn't bringing it back. KIDS!!!

This is the reason I always try to use a great-looking backing fabric that's a little different than the front fabrics. It doubles the chances the receiver will love it and have use for it. Of course, then I go crazy trying to pick a binding color (I'm not quite up to doing that two color binding yet.). Great job on creating something they love - although it wasn't how you expected. I hope we get to see the pics!
