I didn't notice, well I fixed it as best I could, but you could still tell, and just tried to pretend it wasn't there, but my mom who is a quilter didn't notice until I pointed it out. As it's a tree skirt, she said the presents will hide it and don't worry about it. But I usually have a pretty consistent seam even though it's not a 1/4 inch.

If the difference isn't too big, I pin the corners & put the longer piece on the bottom against the feed dogs. I hold both ends and stitch slowly. The feed dogs grab the lower fabric and move it a little bit more than the upper fabric, thereby easing them together.

I close my eyes and pretend it's not there. I have too many unfinished projects to be a perfectionist.

I pinch, I stretch & hope for the best....Then if it's for someone else I keep my mouth shut & no one has ever noticed......

I match the seems then try to ease in the rest along the seam line. I've also stretched some too.

If you off set your vertical pieces by 1/2 block then you don't have to worry at all if your seams match up. See picture below.

    Bargello, no match seams

    Good answer

Another little trick is if one block is a little long, match the two pieces at the correct seams and pin. When you go to sew, have the long one on the bottom next to the feed dogs (if your machine is like mine and does not have even or dual feed) and the shorter block on top. The feed dogs will gently gather that extra fabric into place. Works most of the time depending on how off you are.

Always remember that quilting is meant to be fun. I stretch and ease if it is minor. If it is major, I fix it. Life is short. I can't worry about minor glitches.

You all have great answers. I am very encouraged and think I can finish the quilt top without too much fuss. Next time, I'll design the bargello to be offset like TonnieLauree's. It'll make all the fudging unnecessary!

    Thank you!
