Titanium Rotary blades ;)

I haven't refurbished my cutting mat as of yet. I am smack dab in the middle of making a baby quilt so that will have to wait... I do know that it was mentioned here a few weeks ago so maybe someone has done this and made a comment...

Here is a link referencing reconditioning a cutting mat. I believe it is the 2nd posting on the page by Jackie Spencer. I live in a very dry area so it makes sense that my cutting mat would dry out!

I have three Fiskars rotary cutters and use Olfa blades in them all the time because I haven't found the Fiskars replacement blades where I shop---they work fine. Am going to try the titanium blades as soon as I need to change a blade.

I think blades may work interchangeably, but I am not sure it is healthy for the cutter. Olfa blades have sprockets. I have worn out the hub on a few Fiskars cutters over the years, not necessarily because of using the wrong blades. I simply think the hub is a point of wear and using the correct blades can't be a bad thing.

I purchased a new Fiskers cutter with a titanium blade a month or so ago. I had hoped that it would last longer than the regular blades, but doesn't seem too. It worked great at first, just like other blades, but seems to have dulled a bit quicker than I expected. IMO I don't think the extra cost of these blades are worth it. If anyone else has had any experience with them, please chime in.

I have been to Harbor Freight in person on several occasions in search of rotary blades. No one at their locations seems to know what the heck I'm talking about!! It seems folks here are finding them, but where??? Are you ordering online?

This is for Debbie C. When you into HF. ask the cashier where the cutting tool is to cut carpet with. At my HF they are in the last row by the wall . If you want some PM and I will be happy to send to you.I am going there today for ear plugs.

I swung by Joanns today, cutters were 40% off and a 20% off total purchase coupon. I bought the 60mm titanium one with an extra 2 pack of blades. I've wanted to get the bigger one for awhile so splurged a little for the titanium. Hopefully regular blades will work if I can't find more replacement blades.
