Upcoming David Taylor class...please help!
I have a 4 day class coming up. It's taking a photo, blowing it up, then making an applique pictoral quilt. Humans are not recommended as a subject. And it's also supposed to be a photo of something as opposed to a scene. I have 1000's of photos but nothing is jumping out and saying "pick me!" I love birds. Is it ok if I chose a photo from the internet if it doesn't have someone's name (copyright) on it? Or should I chase down some friend's photo?? Thank you in advance!

You can combine a couple of your photos. If you have a nice main subject, you can find a background you like better. David sometimes changes from the original photo. Take a look at his website and look through the photos of quilts done by his students to get some ideas. It is http://www.davidtaylorquilts.com
You are going to have a wonderful time and he is a great teacher.

I have seen several of his quilts at shows and love them. What a talent! You can use a picture of anything, a bird would be a great choice, just make it a picture that you really like ( look at your avatar picture) so you will enjoy transforming it into a new medium. it might be a good idea to take several photos with you and have help picking the best one. I am just a bit jealous that you are lucky to be in this class. I would love it. Have fun.

I recently was looking at a philonopsus orchid I had and thought I'd love to try appliquéing it someday. I want to do the flower real big. Unfortunately, I did not take a picture and the flowers died. I have another bud just coming out so someday... By the way, I had the orchid flower in bloom for an unbelievable 6 months!! That has to be a record!
