I too love the pineapple quilt, wow!
Spent the morning making a magic wand, tutu, and wings for a child's costume, painting my new locking mailbox, now I am free to sew (in my spare time)for the rest of the week. The costume was the only sewing I got done this weekend. DH needed my help with the truck all day yesterday.

OH wait, tomorrow is a holiday! I can still spend tomorrow in front of the machine. Yippee!

Those are the great things ever, I won one at a overnight Quilting Party. Saves a lot of thread and scrap pieces in my studio. You will love it as will your friend.

I used this tutorial to make them. She suggests a pair of hinges in the bottom of the pincushion to keep it weighted on the table, and then I stuffed it with toy stuffing (can't remember the proper name for it right now!). I only used one hinge in mine, and wish now that I'd used two, but it does stay on the table (just seems a little precarious!). I wrapped the hinge in a plastic sandwich bag, and sellotaped it so it stayed around it nice and tight, because I used an old hinge from my Dad's garage, and didn't want any issues with rust! The only issue I had with the tutorial was when I was trying to sew in the "boning" at the top of the thread catcher...my stitching was so bad on the one I had chosen to be my friend's one (the one with the better piecing) that I had to swap, and give her the other one!

Tucsonquilter, your hexie quilt is gorgeous. What an incredible amount of work and love you've put into it.

I'm working on my parents' Christmas quilt today. I'm FMQing it. I've done small baby quilts but never a twin sized one so we'll see how it turns out. I think I need to sandwich it a little better next time.

Anyone else still working on VQW projects today?

Hi Raggiemom yes I am still working on VQW today. I caught up with mystery train ride clue and have almost completed the Blocks for my D4P. I am hoping to get the sashing done this evening so will post pictures then. My FMQ is not great and I think some of that is that I don't get the quilt sandwich right. Want to try the Sharon schumber?? Method but need to get the boards. Thanks for organising this VQW a it has really kept me focused.

Yesterday there was a fantastic sale at Fabric Depot -- I got 6 yards of fabric and crib sized batting for $25! So I found a border fabric and. Sashing fabric for the pieced back. However, because I got lost in a giant fabric store I only got a little sewing done. But I now have a squared up quilt with a border including my first mitered corners!!! I'm kinda fond of those. When I got them right I think I transformed into a 7 year old gasping and saying "Look! Look!" Fortunately, my boyfriend responded with "ooo fancy corners" so he totally got it.

Cedar, your mitered corners look great. I haven't tried them yet but I have a charity quilt kit which has them in the instructions so will be trying them when I make it. And great deals at Fabric Depot!

Well I didn't get NEARLY as much done as I'd hoped.

While trimming down the quilt I wanted to bind, I noticed a blob of thread on the back. I thought I had caught up some stray thread in my quilting but nope...it was top thread that somehow got pulled through and piled up. Started looking more closely and a whole section of my quilting was a disaster. Looked perfect on top, but on the bottom I could see that my bottom thread was essentially one tight straight line with top thread looped around it. Gave an experimental tug and that bottom thread snapped!! SO...spent some time examining the whole quilt & ended up ripping out about a quarter of the quilting (which mostly came out pretty easily thanks to how weirdly it was stitched in). Then went to redo it and realized something was wrong, machine was still stitching funny. Pulled the machine apart and cleaned it THREE TIMES before I finally found the problematic bit of fuzz hidden and wedged into the bobbin case. Amazing how just a teeny tiny little wad of lint can make a big powerful machine have all kinds of trouble. Finally got the quilting re-done late in the evening and that was it for Saturday; fixing the machine took nearly half a day because I kept having to walk away in frustration and worry. (I thought my machine was BROKEN until I finally found that hidden fuzz!) Pretty much just ended up right were I'd started so Saturday was mostly just a wash.

Sunday I took a break from that quilt (it still needs its binding) and started on my MIL's big-block floral that's currently up on the wall. Only got about 1/3rd of the top together and I was done sewing. Been having troubles sleeping lately so I was just wore out. Spent some time puttering around and cleaning up though so my sewing space is neat and organized again, so I'll count that as being productive!

I did get quite a bit done. Washed (reds twice) and ironed 75 fat quarters, cleaned up sewing room, got the bear paw blocks on the design wall and got that figured out plus fixed one, made a quilt back, ironed it and the top, loaded it on the longarm with (first time) red snappers. Will never pin a quilt again. Bought a digital quilting pattern (first time) on line, downloaded it and finally got it so the pro stitcher reads it. On top of that five hours were gone for the cable and internet installation, the guy was great. This was not an easy installation. Didn't do anything quilty today. Also am very excited, DH is finally putting up the drop ceiling downstairs where my sewing area and family room are. Then we can get the electrician back to finish the lighting down there and a few things upstairs. The plumber is due back here to hook up the bathroom on that level too. My cabinets should be here in two weeks. He is also building me a cutting island and sewing cabinet. If he ever gets done, I will post pictures. Been waiting almost two years for this. Told him a couple of weeks ago I was done being patient.

Well, I finished my parents' quilt and the two towels. Christmas presents are done! I just need to pick up some gift bags to put the stuff in and then my parents can take everything back home with them next week. So later this week, I'll be doing the big CLEANING. That should take me a few days.
