Question Baby quilt on the design Wall...waiting for a name to be chosen...can I?

I have a baby quilt cut out and ready to piece except......the center square is minky and I plan to embroider the baby's name. The rest of the fabrics are flannel prints. Help please: The parents haven't picked a name yet.

Could I go ahead and piece the quilt top and then machine embroider the name when it has been chosen??
Thanks for your input and Happy Quilting this weekend!

And of course I located a mosquito in my kitchen hanging around the sink. I armed myself with a spray bottle of soapy water trying to knock it out of the air. I have gotten them that way, but swatting at them never seems to work. This is why I leave a good number of spiders in my house. They can catch lots of stuff too.

For three days I would approach the sink with my "gun" spray bottle of soapy water. Every time I had the bottle, no mosquito. Then when I didn't have it.....there she was. i can just imagine myself destroying the kitchen trying to get that bug. Finally thisi a.m. I got it. Safely in an envelop. Waiting for me to id the species. Despite majoring in entomology, I never could fit medical ent into my schedule. So I am cluleless.

I cut my additional squares and prepared the sashing yesterday and am back on track today to put the rows and sashing together. Except that I'm waiting for the hubby to get up and go to work (yes, on Saturday). With my insomnia issues, I adjust to his schedule better than he does. Currently his overtime shift starts at 4:00 AM, but today since it's Saturday not until 6:00 AM. So he's doing his equivalent of sleeping in and I'm up but trying to be quiet. The sewing room is right next to the bedroom and I do my layout stuff on the bed. He doesn't mind so much if I drape fabric over him but turning on the light might get a reaction!

So I guess it's time for coffee and sewing board and computer games and sewing in a couple of hours.

Usually participate but I am getting ready to head out to Missouri Star today! It's my 2nd trip. Hubby is a Chiefs fan and we make time to head out to Hamilton and surrounding area when we come down. Looking forward to see what everyone is working on.

Thanks for your kind words, Sewbizgirl. I'm am so happy to have that Row-by-Row ready to start the quilting. Of course that will have to wait until we get back to the winter house where the LA is housed. We should be back home in a couple of weeks. Fall is pretty up close to the Canadian border but it sure does get cold in a hurry.

I'm enjoying all the things you all are doing this weekend. I'll pull out my LBB and work on it some today. And, I'll take a picture or two. I so enjoy seeing the pictures of your projects.

As far as your minky embroidery goes, Copycat, I don't know why you couldn't do that after the quilt top is put together. And, I wouldn't get in a big hurry anyway because if the parents are that wishy washy, they might change the name right up to the time the baby is born. I've heard of parents doing that sometimes.

Good morning VQW'ers, love what you all are showing and sharing what your weekend will produce. Wish I could join you in a physical sew, but this weekend I'm away from my machines. I do plan on going shopping at a couple of quilt shops here in Las Vegas. Just house sitting with the fur-babies. Plan on enjoying those shop hops. Have a productive day everyone.

    Happy Sew-Day Cherryb

I'm off to a slow start - but still a start! I have a scrappy log cabin that has been in the works for a long time. I've got all the peices cut and sorted and am doing them in sets of 24 blocks. Have a total of 7 sets and started on the third set early spring. And then it's been sitting in the way on my cutting table all summer.

Finally got that third set of 24 sewed and everything put back into the box. Don't feel like working on it any more now, but at least it's no longer in the way. I did forget what I as doing a bit since I stopped in the middle of the blocks, and sewed the round on the wrong side so had to rip that off. Another reason not to stop in the middle of a block!

Now on to the mandella quilt project.

Jumped into the VQW last night after deciding I will participate in my first craft fair Dec 6. Proceeds from the table rental go to my son's athletic dept. I'm making rice therapy bags and rice bag hand warmers.

Wondering what I should charge? Any suggestions? I started making the hand warmers last night. They are 4.5x5 finished, and I'll package them as a pair.

Not positive what size might be best for the therapy bag. Thinking 10x6 finished. Open for your input.

So here's the Confetti quilt as laid out. I just have to attach the horizontal sashing to the rows and then put the rows together, there will be no border other than the sashing.

I was motivated for this project in a couple ways, one was I was wanting a quick and easy pattern. Two is I was given a box of precut squares in various sizes. Three was this thread here:
    How to Do ... ?

The inspiration quilt was made with 5" charms, I used 6.5" charms for the focus fabrics. It's funny how when you add a 2" border you get a 10" and not an 8" block -- it starts getting big fast! I started with 30 blocks but needed an additional row to make it a better twin size.

The juvenile novelty focus fabrics are 6.5" raw. I cut the confetti fabric at 2.5", it required ~2.5 yards, I made some cutting errors/my fabric was a tad narrow but I'd say it's closer to 2.25 yards. The sashing squares varied in length from 6-6.5", I cut them all 3" wide x length. In my project I used 35 focus fabrics set 5x7, it should measure 68x94". If you are doing the sashing by squares, you need roughly 100 squares of fabric for the sashing (mine was 98) plus the 35 focus squares.

I don't think that the seams in the sashing sides are random shows up well which is something I wanted. If I did it again, I'd take some of the 4" squares out of the box and cut them 3" and incorporated them into the sashing. For the most part there is only about 1/2" out of center difference.

Edit: I got a bit carried away for a bit when I decided to add the extra row. I knew I didn't have enough juvenile fabrics in the box and that I would have to cut up a bunch out of my stash. Then I calmed down and reminded myself that while yes, this is a juvenile novelty quilt, it is also a quilt from that box of precut squares so I went back in and got out a bunch of bright "adult" prints and quit stressing. Sometimes it's not about the perfect fabric but using the fabric you have.

From that same box of pre-cut squares, I went in and pulled out all the metallic embellished options which included a number of Asian themed squares, but if it is shiny, it is going into this quilt regardless of theme. Gold, silver, foil, lots or little, glitter, it all goes into the mix. I have a bunch of swapping squares from my Y2K era swapping days to use up as well. I will be making a very modern quilt and will use Asian metallics in that one, so am going to go ahead and use up the others in this one.

My name for the project is "Scrap Metal". For me that's pretty funny.

Here's the inspiration for that one, 2nd picture, first post.
    my quilting this summer

I will be setting it on point like that, probably end with sashing after the triangle fill ins, love the look of that. I think I have enough of the dark picture (which does have metallic) for the sashing and hopefully final border. It will be narrow, 2". I'd like to cut the long pieces of sashing going along the vertical line in the design, and then cut the side pieces horizontally, it should make a diagonal flow across the entire top and make the seam lines disappear. My blocks will finish at 7".

This is what they look like so far, the light ones are so light there is no just hiding them so I'll end up putting them together as squares like I'm showing in the picture here. These 32 blocks came from the box of scraps. I have many of the same fabrics in my own collection! I need to draft it up in EQ but I think I need to make another 30 or so blocks and have plenty of fabric.
