Virtual Quilting Weekend--January 18-20, 2019
#92
I'm amazed at all the beauties I'm seeing. That hexie quilt boggles my mind! I decided I didn't like the NQC medallion quilt enough to finish the surrounding blocks. So just bordered the center medallion. It measures 40" square so will make a nice wheelchair/ nursing home quilt. I'm finished for the day. Tomorrow I plan on starting on an Arkansas Crossroads quilt. I have the strips cut and just need to cut the squares, then I can begin sewing.

Wow! Everyone is working so hard and accomplishing so much!
On Friday, I said I would try to sandwich my 7 finished tops this weekend, but I goofed off a little and made one more top to add to the stack. Today I managed to sandwich just 2, so I have 6 more to do. These are all simple baby quilts using squares of cute colorful cartoon animals, dolls, etc. I wish I could post pictures, but I can't. No camera and no fancy phone. Sorry!

The quilt I wanted to get sandwiched today is huge. I didn't measure it, but I'd say it is pretty close to a king size. I got about halfway thru basting the first side when I ran out of 505. So I pulled out a bottle with a little leftover diluted Elmer's glue. I barely managed to get the one side done. Now I am completely out--I don't even have any alcohol to cook up some homemade basting spray!
I think I will call it a night and do some reading.

My...aren’t we a productive group this VQW. Love all the photos and work being done. Rob, your piece is a work of art. I’m sure the metallics will give it some interest.
Nan, what a fabulous project...you always do such beautiful work. Sewbizgirl, I love the blues in your baby quilt. Is there a name for the pattern?
Cash’s mom...your hexie quilt is amazing, I can only imagine the time you have into it.
We are getting our first big storm of the year...they are calling it Harper and it’s supposed to dump 12-18 inches of snow making it a good day to stay home and sew. I have finally gotten up the nerve to load and quilt my ORL on the new machine. I am just going to use a panto to get it done to take to Ohio with me on February 2nd.

Belfry-that cloudy day sampler is looking good.
Patrice- Both are amazing but That strip quilt calls to me- I love the colors and those tiny little qst’s that are formed where the blocks join up make it sparkle
Jmoore- your ORL looks great. Mine is in pieces in the UFO pile where it will stay for at least another year. Stay warm and have fun quilting it on your new machine!
Macybaby- Looking forward to seeing those borders, the top is already gorgeous.

I'm in. Had to start late. Hubby is in Kansas City for the big game- I'm on on snow blowing duty. Weather has been interesting to say the least.
Bought my first embroidery machine so I'm practicing with that and watching related videos. Also want to work on the Attic Windows quilt that I began during last month's VQW. Lastly, I want to decide what sampler quilt I want to do this year. I have several sampler books (Aunt Grace, Sylvia's) etc. and want to decide.

Rob, QuiltE made that strip quilt pattern and showed it a few months ago. I loved it so I decided to use up more scraps and make one myself. It was a really fun pattern and I learned a lot (as usual). Plus it was the first time I sewed WOF strip sets without them bowing so that was a win for me.
