I did find walking feet that are more open but I'm wondering about their effectiveness. Dallen, do they seem to work as good as the giant feet?

With a Pfaff IDT (or is it ITD?) mechanism, the view of the foot is unobstructed.

I've tried different wider feet but never bothered with a walking foot. I just use my standard 1/4" seam foot. Doesn't seem to make much difference to me. Until last year I've been using a vintage machine that didn't have much in the way of options.

I have the preemie quilts I'll be quilting down. I'll try one of them with my integrated Bernina walking foot feature, and one without. Be sort of a limited test, the size is so small and the batting thin but worth it to see if any noticeable difference.

That's wonderful, bear, if you have a Pfaff. What if you don't?

I use the walking foot all the time because it is so hard for me to attach it to my little Singer. It doesn't bother me by obscuring anything. I do machine stitch the binding on the front hand sew the binding on the back.

I always attach binding with a walking foot. I have a Bernina and the walking foot came with two sole plates one is open toe the other is closed toe. But I don't find my vision obstructed with either.

well you are still going thru the thickness and that is what a walking foot helps move the fabric.

I'm like Nan, I hardly ever use my walking foot. I've heard that some people hardly ever take theirs off their machine & use it like a regular foot all the time. Just find what works best for you.

Walking foot all the way! I use it for attaching the binding and then the final stitch to the quilt.

Check to see if the vendor has different feet options. I have an open toe, the 1/4 guide, and a SITD foot that can be used on my WF.

I use the walking foot to put the binding on back then bring it to the front and use a fancy stitch and finish it. Of coarse the foot is an open toe one so my view is not obstructed
