I do not prewash my Warm and Natural batting. I like the little bit of crinkle you get after you wash them. To me it looks more antique that way. I've never had a huge amount of shrinkage.
The table runner problem Ckcowl mentioned is interesting. I've never done a runner but can see how you might not want the shrinkage in those.

I do what maryb119 does, sometimes I put it on fluff only in the dryer, but lately I've been putting it onto heat for about 10 minutes. I usually make lap to queen size quilts & like the warm and natural.

I think quilters dream request has the lowest loft but website should tell you for sure. Lowest loft would be best for table runners.
I have a front load machine and I wash W&N on hand wash and dry in dryer with no problem. I like the smoother look to quilts.
