Wedding dress into a quilt...suggestions please!

Put it into storage to display at your 50th wedding anniversary party. I have my dress, veil, ring pillow, cake top, shoes and going away dress. I have now been married 51 1/2 years. I was so happy I had those and my wedding album to display. Of course we have only lived in two houses, so didnt move them.

Our youngest Girl stood up for many, many weddings, and she wants me to make her a quilt of all the dresses. If any one comes up with a good idea, please let me know how differant matierals sew to gether, Another thing 3 dresses are black,
1 gun metal, 2 differant greens, some red or pink and 1 floral. I told her it couldn`t be done.

I like the idea of the Christening dress and the baby quilts..but at the same time, I can't imagine cutting up my wedding dress!! I've been storing it for 35 years as well, and it was my mother's to begin with - she was married in 1946. My daughter wasn't able to wear it and we laugh about it because she is very thin - but my mom and I must have been even skinnier (hard to imagine now 35 years later....). But you have made me wonder about using it in baby quilts - it's that 1940's heavy satin so it would work really well. Hmmm... might have to think about it. Good luck with whatever you decide for your dress!

Well, ya'll, I really want to try this. And I don't normally like to make tops, but this is really something that's nagging me to try! I don't have a wedding gown, so I put an ad on Craigslist that basically says, if you'll let me cut up your wedding gown, I'll give you the quilt when I'm done. I've had 7 ladies email me (one backed out) about doing it to their wedding gown and one asking if I'd make a T-Shirt quilt. I figure there are so many of you making quilts to give away to charities that I could fork up the batting and thread to learn how to do this. Each and every email I've gotten has gotten the following reply: I've had a couple of ladies email me about it. I do need to warn you that I have never made a crazy quilt before. I'm sure it will turn out just lovely, but I don't want someone to have expectations of a $5000 quilt. It's just something I want to do, but I don't have a wedding gown. Also, it might take a long time.
I'll have to choose one to do and go from there. Like I said, one backed out after I sent that email and I haven't heard back from some. I will take lots of pictures along the way and will probably be asking the board loads of questions!!

Make a crazy center panel that uses the lace and small pieces of fabric, add beads, buttons, and ribbon. Make large log cabins to surround it with the rest of the fabric. Use stabilizer anywhere the fabric is stretchy. Be brave, you'll learn so much.
