It would be nice to keep them in a container and when the group gets together to make a donation quilt then the items can used at that time. Very nice of someone to donate those tools.

I would keep them for the group also, it's so helpful when I forget something at a Bee and there is one to borrow. Mark them well and they will get plenty of use. It's helpful to remember this one phrase, "We will put it where it needs to go.". That's a phrase we use at out community quilts often. Sometimes things are donated in not a condition that you can really use and it really needs to go to the trash or in a dog bed as filler. Don't promise everything in a quilt.

I would rather use something donated for group usage than take my own tools. That is if they are usable.

I do not belong to any kind of group for anything. So really it wouldn't affect me.

definitely use for the group--that way members don't have to drag their own stuff each time they meet. Plus some may be newbies that haven't bought all those things yet.

I agree with keeping them for the group. I do think door prizes are a good idea at meetings though and things like replacement blades make great prizes.

What others said - use them in your group. You won't be sorry.

    My thoughts exactly.

this sounds like a one time project rather than building a charity quilting group, do I understand that correctly?
Because you will have to think a lot further on than just this small donation of 'not fabric' if it will be an ongoing thing.

Does the church have space to store boxes and boxes and more boxes of fabric? I've been in lots of musty churches, do you want the fabric to smell like must? And just a cautionary warning, I've been in two women's homes who offered to keep the group fabric donations and it was difficult to get through the house. Those accepting fabric really need to have a ruthless streak. Not every donation is appropriate

So, is this a one time thing? Why not assign blocks and make them at home?

I agree that if you accept fabric, you need to have a ruthless streak and while it goes against every quilter's instinct, sometimes you just have to throw something out!

I am in a group and we accept donated fabrics. We ask for cotton or flannel. Occasionally we are lucky enough to receive batting’s. We make all sorts of donations. Quilts for veterans, baby quilts, kids quilts for abused kids, bed quilts for PADS, quilts for abused women, etc. we all look forward to our get togethers. We do have a small basket with a rotary cutter, marking pens, scissors, etc.
