It would be a lot of work in some ways but would be worth seeing it all the time.

Cut/rip them into strips, sew the ends together into one long fabric strip. Crochet a rag rug heart to use on your table as a hot pad or center piece.

They don't get washed much and since it's been cut into strips, the raggy edges are "suppose" to be there.

    or

Make a special lap quilt for your room that isn't used to often but he'd know you kept it close to you.

What about this from Moda Bake Shop ...
http://www.modabakeshop.com/2011/01/geese-in-park.html Or maybe some pillowcases. Whatever you decide to make , it was the thought that counted . My darlings gave me a clock that I wasn't particularly fond of,but I hung it anyway.Doesn't go with anything and I have this thing about stuff coordinating or matching. So it was hard , but its been up almost five yrs now and I think of them every time I check the time. I wouldn't dream of taking it down now. :D

Make some grocery tote bags. Something useful with a lining may help the fabric wear better. And it is something anyone could use.

    I like this idea!

Also, check out the tutorial section of this forum for more ideas. I love the cloth basket tutorial that was posted, and I also saw several other projects that would work great for lesser quality fabric.

Keep it, make something precious with it...a cushion, maybe part of a quilt or a much used shopping bag....anything that you will use and keep with you. This is a gift from the heart of your child, very special indeed....Mind you this is the woman who still has some very wonky clay dinosaurs on her bedside cabinet....and her boys are all men now!
