You could back each piece with a fine iron on vilene to give it more body, then use it to make a something for yourself so he can see you getting pleasure out of it :D

If that were my son,I would make a lap quilt, lay it on the back of my recliner,so he could see it everyday. And know I loved it because it came from him.

Have you considered making a tote? You could use one or more of the FQ for the pockets where there may be less wear and still use it so he can see his "effort" was worth it. I am sure you will work it out.

Starch the heck out of those babies and use them. Maybe a table runner or some pillows. Or one of those cloths line rope baskets, you dont need great fabric for those. Use them with pride. Or you could tie a ribbon around them and display them in your sewing room until you find a purpose for them.

What a wonderful son. I would make a wall hanging or a lap quilt. Neither one would get used alot so you would'nt have to worry about wear and tear. Remember something we dont like today we could love tomorrow.

I have some like that I'm planning to use with fusible appliqué. I figured the fusible would stabilize them somewhat and the background fabric would take all the stress of the seams. It was a very thoughtful gift. I think you should find a way to use it and be sure he sees the finished product.

He very specifically got something he felt like you would appreciate. Don't spoil his thoughtfulness and generosity!
Oh I agree with you, mom-6.
