To me, there are really no rules in quilting...or if they are, they are made to be broken...best to do what works best for YOU...I never liked anyone telling me how I HAD to do something sewing related.

I mix cotton with blends. I have also used chemical markers and heard later that they can rot the fabric!!!

I have several rules. 1) If I like the way I did something then remember the rule on how it was done. 2) Enjoy what I am doing and don't worry about what anybody else thinks. 3) My quilts keep me warm even if the points don't match exactly.

I also mixed washed and unwashed fabrics because I used to prewash everything...

ME TOO I DON'T KNOW WHY THEY WOULD PRINT A PATTERN AND THEN TELL YOU NOT TO COPY THATS THE WHOLE PURPOSE TO BUYING A QUILTING BOOK FOR THE PATTERNS AND INSTRUCTIONS.

I am not a pinner unless I just have to. I have learned that I need to do it more for better intersections, but I put in the least amount I can.
One friend had a 10 inch block to practice quilting and she had 20 pins in it to hold the fabric sandwich. I asked how she possibly did anything other than removing pins. See I'm clueless.
I usually don't follow the pattern. I change something along the way... just because. this drives my DH insane.
But it is me.
I'm not the least bit apologetic about any of this either!

I use the rotary cutter towards me instead away from me and have to nerve do this again because I will now be on blood thinners for the rest of my life. EIKEES
