If I buy thread at JoAnns, I usually get the Gutterman threads. If they carry Metler, that's really good too. Coast and Clarks is not a great thread.

My first quilt was done with Gutterman's. (That is what the teacher told us to buy!)

At my guild a couple months ago we had a "tread expert" speak to us. I used to think that you had to use "all cotton" thread but as long as it a good quality thread you can use polyester or even rayon if you want. I am talking about machine quilting. If you are hand quilting, there is a special hand quilting thread too.

I have read this before on this board. I have used coats & clarks for 40 yrs and have not had any problems with it. I've hand quilted many quilt using Coats & Clarks hand quilting thread, and after years & years of use I have never seen a stitch come loose or brother or my fabric torn because of the thread.
