The problem is a lot of people(read: family) want me to make quilts for them to give as gifts. I have already made quilts for everyon for their B'days. My sister wanted me to make 2 quilts for her goddaughters. I said materials would be around 125 to 150 . I was going to charege $1.25 per hour for labor. Well she hit the roof...expected me to do it for free and she thought the materials were too high. She wanted twin sized quilts.

Non- quilters don't appreciate the work or cost that is involved in making a quilt. There are some quilts that I have given that I wished I had kept. :-)

When we used to sell at craft fairs, if someone made rude noises about the price of a bed quilt, we would say,
"you should go to Kmart, I'm sure you will find something you like there."

Well we thought about saying it....

A girl I work with said to me "I should get you to make my sons king size quilt for his bed, I already got the material for it. How much would it cost me?" I said for a king you will need at least 500.00 down and she liked to have a coronary, she said, I guess I'll just have to do it myself. This was about 5 years ago, I asked her a couple of months ago if she had ever gotten to it she said it was to time consuming and she never did get past "cutting out the pieces." hard-e-har-har!!! She actually asked me last week to make her a comforter for her new grandbaby, I had to tell her I don't make comforters, she said "well I thought a comforter would be fairly cheap compared to a quilt"....Some people

Before I started quilting I had no idea how much a quilt cost. But the fun is worth the price.
