Because those "quilts" are mad with cheap labor and even cheaper materials...and they start falling apart after the first wash! What really gets me is when the quilts I make get compared to them!
I know what you mean!
I have a relative that wants me to make her a quilt, she did offer to pay for 'materials' only (lol) but when I told her what it would cost she got upset & said "I can buy one cheaper than that at WalMart!"

I told her to go buy it then!

This is such a great thread!!
Once my sister bought ones of those quilts w/o knowing anything about it's origin (she's NOT a quilter, obviously) Anyway when I went to visit her and saw it I went ballistic! My poor sister got a lecture from me. hahaha
She has since moved here and I noticed the quilt was gone. She told me she gave it to Goodwill after my lecture lol
I'm not one to give advice but when it comes to quilts it's a whole different story!! :D

is all american made fabric.

it is a very good question.
I just pulled out my connecting threads catalog. Read it again...It says USA cotton. That doesn't mean the fabric is made in the USA, it means the cotton was grown in the USA. Just another gimmick to mess up our minds.
never thought of it that way..

Okay so North America can be Canada or Mexico, or US. My bet would be that the fabric is woven in Mexico. I like that there is no formaldyhyde, but I think that has been pretty much banned anyway. I do like their fabric, although the selections are somewhat limited. But so with other manufacturers. It would be interesting to know the same about the others.

And the price of your sewing machine for the machine piecing. How much does a good Pfaff run these days?

Aside from the cost and the time, if your sensitive at all, you can feel the difference between a hand crafted quilt done with love and one that is mass manufactured. Quilts are a way to give warmth and hugs to those we love.

If that was 1995, think what it would be now. I've never sold a quilt because I tell people you couldn't afford my time. But I'm willing to make them a quilt, they buy the fabric, I'll give them the gift of my time. And if gives me something to do. Thanks for those stats.
