Default What is a Serpentine Stitch?

First, what is a serpentine stitch? and second do you make it on a Pfaff 4.2 quilt expression? I'm sure this is an elementary quilting topic, but I need help after 12 years of quilting. Thanks.

The attached might help illustrate the stitch pattern:

The serpentine stitch is curved and looks like a snake slithering along the ground.

The top group was sewn by a Bernina 930 Record (mid 1980's machine)

The lower group was sewn by a Pfaff 1471 (also a mid 1980's machine)

Each group of stitches was set at the widest setting and then I changed the "length" settings

I wish that the my Pfaff had a serpentine stitch. I also wish it had a buttonhole stitch. I think I could program them in if I took the time to figure out how to do it!

Thank you so much. The slithering like a snake was the biggest help.

That stitch is on your machine. Play with width and length settings to get something you like. It is a good go-to stitch.

I use the serpentine stitch on my Bernina 1031 and vintage 830 to join sections of leftover batting.

On my Pfaff I use 4.0 and play around with it until I get the width and length where I want.
Sorry, it # 87.

I have phaff quilt expression 4.0 and the serpentine stitch is my go to stitch for quilting my charity quilts. Depending on my thread choice, I play with the length and width until I like it. It definitely adds a lot to my normal corner to corner quilting style.

I use the serpentine stitch occasionally. On some my earlier quilts, particularly trying to use flannel for the backing, I would get a pucker in back and not know it at the time. If I had to rip a few inches out and re-stitch, I had the devil of a time getting those serpentine squiggles to line up with what was already there. Mostly, they did not match up.

You might be able to adapt and 3 step zig zag to make a serpentine. I'd have to think about how to do it.
