The Janome 300E is a good size hoop 5x7plus you should get the smaller one with the machine l also purchased the Giga hoop which is larger still, once you get used to the machine and is very simple to use. l have now upgraded to 9700 as is sew's as well.Enjoy

I say NO to the 4x4 not enufffff room for most things.

You will not be happy with it, you do need bigger. Sometime I do 2 small embroiderys in one bigger hoop and then cut to size. You waste less fabric that way.

Hope waht every one you get you are happy with it I didn't see that you checked out the Sapphire/Viking with embroider.

I use a 240 x 150 almost always so if you afford to go bigger, by all means do!

I would like to embroider squares to make quilts and maybe embroider on dish hand towels. Thanks for any suggestions. :)
My opinion is that if you don't go at least a 6x10 hoop you will be very sorry. A 4x4 is okay for about a month, then you will wish you had the larger hoop. Good Luck.

I would say go with the biggest hoop, once you get hooked on machine embroidery you will want to do "in the hoop" designs and larger embroidery designs. Go as large as you can afford, it will be worth it, you can still use the smaller hoops. Brother comes with 4 sized hoops all are invaluable at different times. (Brother 4000D).

I have an embroidery machine and found the 4x4 hoop very limiting. Go online to an embroidery store (I like Embroidery Library best) and every embroidery designs has the size listed.

I would get the bigger size hoop you will regret it if you don't. I started of with a 4x4 hoop and once I got started embroidering I was itching to get a bigger size of hoop. I now have the Brother PE 600 and I am still looking for a machine with a bigger size of hoop. Once you start embroidering it becomes addictive. Hope this helps you

personally speaking, i used to be a professional embroider.
i did caskets. had a hoop that was 27" x 29" i loved it.
i say the bigger the better.
look onlike at emb lib.com thaey have nice designs that fitr a 5x7 so i'd say go bigger.
good luck

also, if bigger, you can do jacket back, or multiples in the hoop.
(like lace embroidery)
