I like to use a variety of whites, white on white prints, ecrus, ecru on ecru prints, tans, tan on tan prints, etc. just as long a they are lighter than the ones I want to really show up. The mix makes for a more interesting quilt.

Have you tried something besides Kona solids? Moda bella solids or RJR cotton supreme, or P &B color spectrum are all solids that I believe are really good quality and maybe not quite as heavy as Kona.

I like to use white on white or cream on cream. I think the little bit of variation adds a little depth to the quilt and I don't care for muslin.

I love the White on Whites at Virginia Quilter

    http://www.virginiaquilter.com/cgi-l...adf+1304342025

They have "enhanced" the photos so that it is easier to see the fabric patterns. These are my go to fabrics. Most are P&B Textiles and are nice quality fabrics. I have bought tons of this - sometimes they are out of what you want - but they always get it back in stock.

I just came back from the LQS and bought Kona snow for the white. It looks promising but maybe a little thick. We'll see. I also bought some Kona bone and ivory. They are more creamy.

In the past I made some quilts with Moda muslin but when I buy the same bolt now the fabric does not seem as thick and has many pieces of the cotton seed shell, little brown specks. Kona again is too thick for my liking to piece with.
I try to find tonals to match my other fabric.

I like Kona natural, I also like muslin with the little specks in there.
I used to be big on WOW's but not so much anymore.
