what would you do?
I have two friends with 50th Anniversary coming up. I have made a queen quilt for one but the other has a king bed and I machine quilt on my Singer and a king is just so hard to quilt. (Did one for my sister and that was enough.) I was wondering would it be OK to make a his and her's quilted throw or lap quilt for the second friend or would it look like I was being partial to one over the other?

Very generous gift ideas! I think the lap quilts are a great idea. I did gifts in April for a 50th. Made them bags! His was made out of Mr Fix It fabric - lined - pockets. Hers was made from the Bella Flora line. They could use them for the beach or his truck or for travel. We put wine bottles inside. I wanted to be original :-)

I have quilted large quilts in sections on my DSM. Or you might have a friend with a longarm who would be willing to trade services. Or perhaps the friend has a guest bedroom with a queen mattress. I also think the his/hers lap quilts are wonderful ideas. I just think you are a wonderful friend to do something so special.

Whatever you do is a generous, wonderful, loving gesture. Bigger doesn't have to be better. Just to acknowledge 50 years of marriage with a handmade gift of any kind is special. Even a matching table set of a tablerunner with coordinating placemats in a beautiful "splurge" fabric would be appropriate.

Well, if *I* were receiving the gift, I'd rather have throws than a bed quilt.
I kind of think of the bed quilt as very personal and most people would like to make their own choice. (Unless of course you know their taste and preferences.) Also, furnishings are typically a woman's choice whereas the lap quilts gives the man something of his own.
I think your alternative is perfect.
