I think the lap quilt is a wonderful idea. It's from a friend!

I have a king sized bed, and notice on a lot of website that sell already made bedding, a plain bedspread, with a lapsised quilt is placed on top of it, diagonally. That's what I'm going to do. A plain woven bedspread, a colorful quiilt.

Shoot, all the photos I have seem to be of someone elses work, so I'm not going to post them, because I just don't remember where I got them, but one is of 4 seasons of bed toppers. It looks like she had one for each season, winter, spring, summer, fall

I am assuming they know each other? Would they go to each others anniversary parties? If so them do not give your gift at the party, that way they won't 'see' to compare. I would be happy with anything and couldn't care less what others have but I understand your worry. I think the throws are a great idea!

Well said, CMW. I like the idea of individual throws or lap quilts.

I agree completely. Also, my DH of 41 years is always colder than I am so he puts another quilt on top of our king size quilt HIS side of the bed. I have a friend who makes 2 separate, smaller quilts for her king size bed, one for her, one for him.

Lap or twin quilts is a great idea. I made some for us and at night we both use them on our queen bed; that way if one get up and wants to cover up and sit up, we just take it with us and not distrub the other but stay warm too. One big quilt would be hard to manage and leave the other cold and asleep.
