What would you do?

What an amazing story. That little quilt worked so hard to find its way home... if you mention it, the former owners may have a spike of shame and re-claim it as though they've been looking for it. And the little quilt will be brokenhearted. It probably needs a good bath and a warm snuggle. oh, and blessings to your heaven-sent angel.

I agree with Jan...I think its really cool that someone found it , I think its a gift...and as the rest say on the board...people have no idea how much works go into it...I never knew myself till I started making them.

I think it's pretty cool, actually!

I would ask your friend just in case. That very thing happened to us when we moved. I had two stacks of packed items. The one on the left side of the door were to go to the Goodwill shop, the one on the right were to be moved with us. I told my DH at least three times which was which and then off I went to work. No need to guess what happened. The good stuff went to the goodwill and the old stuff stayed at home. Not only that, he "accidentally" sent the box of my very best patterns and most favourite fabrics to the goodwill as well. In this box were all the special patterns I has save from when our own kids were little and I wanted to save them for future grandkids (which we now have).I had weeded out all my fabrics and patterns and saved just one box of the best of the best. It's six years later and I still get kind of ticked off when I think of all those good sewing things he threw out. It's a good thing he's such a fabulous guy in all other areas. He just loves to throw things out!

1. it is possible to lose something precious.
2. it is possible to find yourself having no choice but to give up something precious.
3. it is not necessary to read anything negative into the fact that this quilt ended up at the GoodWill. there are so many positive possibilities it would take hours to list them. let us not forget that a donation to GoodWill offers somebody else the chance to own something wonderful (that we feel forced to part with) they could not have afforded otherwise.
4. if you decide to tell your friend what happened you would not need to spin the story in a negative direction. "the funniest and most wonderful thing happened. etc, etc, etc"
you don't need to state or imply any suspicion or belief that the couple did anything wrong or thoughtless by parting company with the quilt. AND you might find out that they've been heartbroken all this time because they lost it and miss it.
there's a reason "spin doctors" make millions.

I would just keep it and love it. If you say something you could make them feel real bad, if they ever say something to you, like it was given away by mistake, you can say,
"you are not going to belive what I have".
"you are not going to belive what I have".
