Default what are your favorite brands of good quality fabric for colors, prints and batiks

Just curious if any quilters have come to like certain brands of fabric that provide consistent, quality with all their artist designed fabric.(eg. Free Spirit Kaffee Fassette and Joel Dewberry?)

Are there specific brands you find of lower quality.

I was also wondering what the best quilting cotton in solids you would recommend?

Thanks for your time!

Welcome to the board!
I love Moda- probably my favorite of all but also Michael Miller, Robert Kaufmann, RJR
I love Bella Solids.

For me low quality is JAF, big box stores, etc.

Interestingly enough.. I've discovered that all fabrics from a particular (even well known) manufacturer and/or designer may not be of the same weight/quality. I'm not an expert in fabrics but that's my experience.

I tend to stay with the name brands but have bought plenty of fabric from Hobby Lobby and Joanns as well. For me, the project dictates what fabric (brand, quality, cost) I will use. I've found a purpose for them all

As for solids, I've had consistent success with Kona Solids.

Welcome to the QB!

I buy fabrics more by feel than anything else. I do buy some online especially if there is a particular collection I can't find locally. When buying online I try to stick with the bigger name brands. I so rarely use solids, that I don't really have a favorite. I tend to find tone on tone fabrics more interesting than solids.

I started out with JoAnns fabrics and quickly learned that quality matters. I tend to buy quilt shop quality and have had great luck with Moda and free spirit fabrics and Kona solids.

I've heard this a lot, but I've found some very nice fabrics at JoAnns ... and some not-so-nice at LQS. I think you just have to be willing to look everywhere.

I love Marcus fabrics. I make 30’s and love Judy Rothemel’ “Aunt Grace”..also love their reproduction fabrics. Also love the feel of Michael Miller and Moda jumps off the shelf and into my arms..their designs are awesome in my opinion. I do use QS fabrics and love all fabrics I find.
