My daughter loves the quilt I made for her to take to college. It is a d9p. The colors are black/white fabric combo white/black fabric combo with a bright pink print, this pattern is young and fun to sew, She loves this quilt! I also used the same pattern and the black/white combos with lime green batik beautiful also.

Black with any other color seems to be my favorite (typically red or purple).

If this were me, I'd be very tempted to make a quilt with black on black, black on white, and white on black fabrics. I think it would be very striking and classy in a white room

I would first check the school colors. Then find prints that include those colors in patterns that reflect who she is - girly, girly or sports or horses or whatever she likes.

How about going with the school colors where she is going.

Try looking at clothes for color combinations.

Take her shopping with you to pick you the fabric and pattern. Then you'll be giving her exactly what she wants!

I wouldn't copy most of the magazines as they may have good quilt designs but a lot of their colour combinations are really dreadful.
The most important part is value rather than colour, in my opinion. As long as you choose a conmbination of light and dark contrasts it will look a lot better than a whole lot of middle range colours that blend together and do not have any 'oomph'.
