The angle at which you hold your blade to the fabric while cutting means a lot too....raise your wrist a bit more, see if that helps. Just a thought.....

When that happened to me, I discovered I had reassembled the cutter wrong after putting a new blade in. Looked fine to me until I watched a YouTube video showing how to put in a new blade.

I did this with two of my rotary cutters. "smile" My daughter straightened me out. Putting on two blades has happened once only. I couldn't cut anything. It almost perforated the cloth, but absolutely wouldn't cut.

I had a Fiskars cutter wear out. The blade center seemed to wear out the cutter spindle. It was no longer round and smooth -- had grooves in it an seemed misshapened. The blade would not turn smoothly.

Cutters do wear out, so that could be the problem. Also, what surface is your mat sitting on? If it's not flat, smooth and solid, it will make the mat grab the blade more. I don't like cutting on some long plastic tables because of this.

I didn't think cutters wore out either, until mine stopped working even with a new blade. I tried a new cutter and all was well.

I just had the same problem and the new blade is no different. I'm thinking it's time to turn my mat, which is easier said than done.

Mine can be put on either side. Have you tried to put it on the opposite side?

One other thought... Not all blades will fit in all cutters. You need a Fiskars blade for a Fiskars cutter, an Olfa blade for an Olfa cutter, etc. The center holes can be different -- some with slots, some without.

An interesting observation we've come across at the quilt shop, is that if you have a granite counter top under your mat, your blade will wear out really fast. It doesn't make any sense, but we've seen it a few times.
