I don't see anything wrong with it. Some yellow in the border would be cute. I love yellow and gold.

How about some yellow baby rick rack or ribbon on the bottom of the apron? Then some yellow binding?

I would get some of the big rickrack or ribbon in bright yellow and run it in the middle of the sashing, both horizontally and vertically. The yellow in the butterfly print just isn't strong enough to compete with the bright yellow background.

Was there a reason you used the solid in one direction only?

lol you explained some awful quilt and when you look all you can say oh how cute/ hope you finish it I would go the color of the bonnets if you want to tame down the yellow.

I am a big fan of Sun Bonnet Sue and have several quilts showing her off, also made a few mistakes (or at least I thought so) using yellow fabric in quilts, it does tend to take over and become the focus fabric, however, using it as a background for Sue is good, she really pops on that yellow. But I would suggest not using more yellow in your borders, instead use the blue/purple, pink or any other color from your pattern fabric, or a different variation of pattern fabric, but limit the use of yellow otherwise it might draw the eye toward the border and you want to keep the focus on Sue, which you have done nicely, good job!

Looks great to me. Did you remove the lavendar boarder?
If that is staying on, and this is the size you want it to be, I think a coordinating yellow binding is all you need to bring it all together.

Very cute blocks! I agree to add some dark blue border/sashing for balance. If you want to tone down the yellow backgrounds, I would heavily quilt it with a white or dark blue thread, depending on which effect you want. Good luck, and post pictures when you are done!!
