When to replace your sewing machine needle

I have read in several magazines that you should replace it after each project. I wonder if these suggestions are made by the people who make needles. lol. I change mine when it seems to be getting dull or breaks.

I really love the way I can call Superior Threads and have Bob, the owner, answer the phone! I've also gone to their warehouse in St. George, Utah...ooooohhhhh so dangerous! Their thread looks great online, but in person they are even harder to resist!!!
